Kavita India: The Poets' Collective — Inaugural Online Series, dates to be announced

Support Kavita India

How the collective sustains itself — and the principles that govern every rupee that comes in.

This page describes the principles behind Kavita India's funding. The full policy — including specific contribution structures — is still under discussion and legal review, so no donation or payment facility is live yet. If you'd like to support the collective or discuss funding it, write to us.

Editorial Independence

Funding exists to strengthen Kavita India's mission — never to influence it. No funder, individual or organisational, has any say in editorial, artistic, or intellectual decisions. Those choices remain the exclusive responsibility of Kavita India's trustees, entirely separate from how the collective is funded.

Kavita India will not adopt pay-to-publish models, sell awards, charge poets for inclusion in an anthology, or let sponsorship shape literary programming. Where corporate support is accepted, recognition is limited to a simple, text-based acknowledgement — the poets and the poetry are never overshadowed.

How Support Works

Rather than depending on a small number of large donors, Kavita India intends to draw on broad-based domestic support: individual contributions from readers and well-wishers, grants from Indian philanthropic and cultural foundations, corporate social responsibility support, and — over time — a protected endowment fund whose income sustains the collective's work without touching the principal.

As a matter of policy, Kavita India does not accept funding from outside India. Every contribution, whatever its size, is expected to come from lawful, ethically compatible domestic sources — and no single donor is allowed to become large enough to compromise the collective's independence.

Transparency

Kavita India is committed to publishing its accounts openly: major donations and grants received, the projects they fund, major expenditure, and independently audited annual accounts. No anonymous contributions will be accepted, and every contribution — individual or organisational — will be a matter of public record.

Income raised is committed to the collective's literary work — publications, translation, the archive, and fair payment to poets, translators, and editors — rather than to administrative overhead.

Get in Touch

The specific ways to contribute — individual support, institutional grants, or corporate partnership — are still being finalised. If you would like to be part of that conversation, or support Kavita India in the meantime, please reach out through our contact page →
